Plant-Based Diet

Health Facts

  1. The World Health Organization has classified processed meats (hot dogs, bacon, sausage, ham, deli meats) as carcinogens, in the same category as tobacco and asbestos. Red meats (beef, pork, lamb and goat) are probable carcinogens. (source: cancer.org).

  2. Plant-based diets are nutritionally adequate for all. Foods from animal sources are not required for health, and in fact, are detrimental to health, and the environment, according to the largest network of dietitians in the world (The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics).

  3. Plant-based diets are proven to prevent and reverse chronic diseases including heart disease, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer.

  4. Type 2 diabetes is on the rise. Insulin resistance is not caused by sugar or carbs, it's caused by fat. Diets high in saturated fats (animal fats) increase your risk of developing type 2 diabetes whereas diets rich in whole unrefined carbohydrates and low in saturated fats can reduce your risk, and can reverse the disease. (Sources and info here).

  5. Plant-based diets are the ONLY diets proven to prevent and reverse heart disease. (Sources and info here).

  6. Excessive seafood intake (3-4 servings per month) causes cognitive dysfunction. (Nutritionfacts.org)

  7. Women should completely eliminate fish from their diet for 5 years before conceiving children to reduce PCB exposure to babies.

  8. Fish have extremely high levels of pollutants and toxic elements (pesticides, DBT, PCB's, mercury, lead, etc.) that are absorbed into the blood and brains of those who eat them.

  9. Farmed fish have higher levels of toxins, generally twice as high as wild-caught fish. However, "mis-labeling" of fish and other seafood as wild-caught in the US is between 30-38%, so the average rate of fraud is 1 in 3.  (Nutritionfacts.org)

  10. Dairy is associated with acne, increased bone fractures, increased risk of cardiovascular disease, Parkinson’s disease, some forms of cancer and increased infertility.  (Nutritionfacts.org)

  11. Dairy cows are kept continually pregnant, and have been genetically modified to produce milk throughout their pregnancies. This pregnancy milk is riddled with estrogen. People who consume this milk and cheese have extra estrogens in their blood, resulting in increased PMS symptoms for women (cramping, bloating, headaches), and man boobs and decreased sperm counts for men.
